IOWA (KCAU) — UPDATE (6/25/2024 @ 10:20 p.m.): According to the National Water Prediction Service , the Big Sioux River in Sioux City has dropped below 41 feet. This takes it out of the “Major Flood Stage” designation.

PREVIOUS (6/25/2024 @ 8:22 a.m.): In some areas of Siouxland, river levels are starting to decrease.

Dakota County Emergency Management said that the Missouri River crested at 32.32 feet at around 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday. As of numbers obtained at 7 a.m., they said that the river is now down to 31.9 feet.

Dakota County officials also said that river levels for the Big Sioux River are also starting to decrease. They say that the river crested at approximately 44.86 feet on Monday and are now down to 42.9 feet as of Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Officials state that the decrease in water will slow down in the upcoming days but project that the river will be at around 6.2 feet by July 8.

Monona County officials say Rodney has been evacuated

Cherokee County officials are also reporting that river levels have gone down.

They state that water levels have gone down by about 3 inches.

Despite this, will continue to remain closed in areas of Cherokee County and they are still working on getting sewage back to normal.

According to the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS) , the Big Sioux River at Sioux City is projected to drop below Major Flood Stage somewhere between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. This projection is as of 8:19 a.m. and may change as data continues to be collected.

As water continues to move downstream, many communities are still seeing flood waters spill over from the rivers in Siouxland. Be sure to monitor information from your local emergency services, and KCAU 9, as situations may change.
