SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The wait is over for Briar Cliff Chargers assistant track and field coach Ben Jefferies, who has been selected to represent his home nation of Great Britain in the 2024 Olympic Games.

The three-time NAIA National Champion took home second place in the 400 meter dash final at the UK Athletics Championships in Manchester, England on Sunday with a personal best time of 45.63 seconds.

Team Great Britain was slated to announce its Olympic Team on Tuesday, but that decision was pushed back to today, with Jefferies earning a spot as one of seven members of the 4×400 relay team.

A call that came with plenty of emotions for Jefferies, but one he won’t ever forget.

“It seems really surreal when you get that call. It’s one of those things that kind of takes a moment to sink in that you have just received this call and you’ve spoken to some of these people. A lot of these people that were around me were people I was racing with and against and people I’ve seen on social media. I’ve been out here for pretty much all of my track career. So finally meeting some of these people, matching up against them, and shaking their hand was also very, very surreal for me.” Jefferies said. “Seeing the reactions from some of the people that have supported me along the way is kind of what fills me with that joy as well and lets them know their trust was well placed in me.”

Jefferies will report back to London in a couple of weeks for team camp before traveling to Paris for Olympic competition.
