SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — More than $70,000 of emergency grants were given to Siouxland groups that have been helping victims of the recent flooding.

Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD) announced $71,650 worth of grants Friday morning. The emergency grants were mobilized swiftly after historic and unprecedented flooding caused widespread damage to Siouxland homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

Farmers worried about future seasons following flooding

Six groups received grants for helping residents in McCook Lake, Riverside, and rural Woodbury County. The organizations have been working to respond to those in need, and the grants went towards food, temporary housing, essential supplies, cleanup and emergency repairs. Funding will also help organizations to provide access to construction materials, dehumidifiers, and other needs.

Below is a list of those organizations and the amount in grants they received.

    1. Community Action Agency of Siouxland – $5,000
    2. Correctionville Economic Development Corporation – $15,000
    3. McCook Lake Isaac Walton League – $15,000
    4. Riverside Lutheran/New Hope Church – $15,000
    5. Salvation Army – $16,650
    6. Sioux City Junior League – $5,000

Another round of emergency grants will be awarded in two weeks.

Additionally, the MRHD is changing its existing Impact Match Grant program to help find flood-related projects for upcoming grants. Some of the changes include waiving the required match and limit on outstanding projects.

For any groups with flood projects, they are asked to contact MRHD’s Executive Director David Gleiser by phone at 712-899-6631 or by email at execdir@mrhdiowa.org. Those interested can also review the updates on MRHD’s website .

The application period for the Impact Match Grant will run throughout August, with $1,000,000 will be available for total awards. Grant recipients will be announced on October 24.
