Jones called into work that day and said he needed a ride. When a co-worker came to pick him up, Jones reportedly “lured” him into the garage, held him at gunpoint with a loaded shotgun, and said they were “going for a ride.”
Jones then made the victim drive him in Jones’ car to a local casino, the DOJ says. He allegedly said he was going “to shoot up the casino” and use the victim as a human shield.
On the way near Mapleton, Jones reportedly had the victim stop at a gas station, ordering the victim to buy him food and beer. The victim went into the store and held up the items so that Jones could see, then ran out through the back.
As the victim escaped, he ran across two fields and a river until he reached an airfield and got help.
Police then found that Jones had left the gas station, leaving his car behind. He was later found and arrested.
