Officials with the Sioux Falls Police Department are investigating the cause of a crash that left a 21-year-old motorcyclist dead Saturday evening.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded at about 9 p.m. to the area of East 57th Street and South Rateliff Avenue, where a sedan and motorcycle collided, a press release from the department states.

Crews found the motorcyclist on scene with critical injuries.

"Lifesaving efforts were attempted but the driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries on the scene," the release states.

A preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist was traveling east on East 57th Street at a high rate of speed, as a black sedan entered the intersection and the motorcycle collided with the sedan, the release states.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens said no charges had been filed against the driver of the sedan, and urged motorists to follow speed limits at all times. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
