SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — As of earlier this week, there is an update on two MMIP cases that have been on the table for more than two years.

Jonathan Eagle Elk has signed court documents, admitting to beating two homeless people to death in the town of Pine Ridge.

In June of 2022, Eagle Elk killed Louis Swift Bird. One month later, he admits killing Maria Makes Him First.

Following her untimely death, Makes Him First’s family invited KCAU 9’s sister station KELOLAND to cover the funeral.

Her loved ones were heartbroken, not only because Maria had been left alone to die, but because the case was unsolved.

KELOLAND took a look back on the case and we’ll take a closer look at the plea agreement filed today.
