HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -The 4th heat wave of the season had legs on Wednesday with a surprise 90 day in the River Cities of Huntington-Ashland-Ironton. Turned out just enough afternoon sun broke through the tropical cloud deck for our 26th day of ninety degree heat. That heat helped to foster scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Both the Wellston and Eleanor fairgrounds saw a healthy downpour pass. While all showers stayed well behaved, the notion that the overnight tropical air could incite a slow moving downpour with pockets of localized high water is not far-fetched. So until the first light of day, let’s not let our guard down! Be vigilant if a downpour with thunder stalls in southern sections.
