West Virginia Humanities Council celebrates 50 years of Arts, cultural enrichment
SHEPHERDSTOWN — The West Virginia Humanities Council (WVHC) celebrated its 50th anniversary at Alma Bea restaurant in Shepherdstown on July 11. While the 501©3 nonprofit organization’s headquarters are in Charleston, WVHC Executive Director Eric Waggoner said the organization decided to hold its anniversary celebration in the Eastern Panhandle, due to the many ways the WVHC has invested in local humanities efforts. Without WVHC funding, the Contemporary American Theater Festival would not be able to offer any free programming and no History Alive! actors would be traveling the state, sharing little known stories from the past with modern audiences.

New statewide protocols roll out for EMS agencies in West Virginia
At the beginning of July, the West Virginia Department of Health (WVDH) rolled out new protocols for EMS agencies across the state which will open up the ability for EMTs and paramedics to treat ailments in the field, according to WVDH Secretary Dr. Sherri Young.
Trail being added to nature preserve in Roane County
WALTON — Work is underway to add a more than two-and-a-half-mile trail at a nature preserve in southern Roane County. The American Water Charitable Foundation recently provided $83,400 for trail development and watershed conservation at Hungry Beech Preserve in the Walton area, according to a press release from the Nature Conservancy in West Virginia, which owns and operates the preserve and is part of a global conservation organization.

John Manchin Senior Health Care Center among nursing homes to possibly be sold
FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) - The West Virginia Department of Health Facilities recently unveiled a new initiative to sell four state-run nursing homes. In a press release Friday, the department announced it will be working with Lument Securities, a healthcare merging and acquisition company, to sell Jackie Withrow Hospital in Beckley, Hopemont Hospital in Terra Alta, Lakin Hospital in West Columbia, and John Manchin Senior Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Charleston man sentenced to five years in prison on federal drug charges, prosecutors say
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Charleston man has been sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison on federal drug charges, prosecutors said. Willie Charles Sanders, also known as “Disco”, 51, was sentenced Thursday on distribution of methamphetamine charges after admitting to selling 28 grams of meth to an informant on Aug. 23, 2022, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of West Virginia.
