Kirk Herbstreit thinks this SEC team is a sleeper to make the Playoff
The way a team can compete for a national championship in college football has changed this year. After ten years of the four-team College Football Playoff, we’ve arrived at the expansion season for the CFP, with a whopping twelve teams having a chance to play their way to a title. For the Oklahoma Sooners, the standard has always been to compete for national championships. Regardless of what conference the program is in, what the postseason format loos like, or how good outsiders expect OU to be, winning is the expectation in Norman. That’s no different under head coach Brent Venables, who...

Remembering Clemson Football’s 37-17 victory in 2015 Orange Bowl over Oklahoma
It’s officially 37 days until the Tigers start the 2024-25 season against Georgia, a team they could meet again in the playoffs. The number 37 just so happens to be significant in Clemson’s first College Football Playoff win. No. 1 Clemson defeated No. 4 Oklahoma 37-17 in the 2015-16 CFP Semifinal at the Orange Bowl. Quarterback Deshaun Watson was outstanding on the ground, rushing for 145 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. He was also 16/31 passing for 187 yards and a touchdown. Running back Wayne Gallman also had a great game rushing, carrying the ball 26 times for 150 yards and a couple of touchdowns. More impressively, the Tigers held Baker Mayfield and the Sooners scoreless in the second half. Mayfield threw for 311 yards, but Clemson allowed only one passing touchdown, and linebackers Ben Boulware and B.J. Goodson picked him off twice. Oklahoma couldn’t get anything going in the ground game, rushing for a measly 67 yards. Clemson went on to play No. 2 Alabama in the CFP National Championship but lost by five points. 2016 Orange Bowl Highlights

Former ESPN collge football analyst says Oklahoma is a better program than Texas
In 2023, the Texas Longhorns finally lived up to the hype that’s driven the program for much of the last decade. They won the Big 12 (their fourth conference title) and they made the College Football Playoff (their first appearance). Now, they’re one of the favorites to contend for the SEC title after coming in second in the SEC media poll last week.
Balance of power in Oklahoma football has shifted for 2024 and beyond
Throughout Oklahoma's illustrious football history, the Sooners have been more often associated with offensive greatness than anything else. This doesn't mean that OU hasn't had some outstanding defensive teams. The Sooners had some very good defensive teams with All-American talent on that side of the ball in the Barry Switzer coaching era, despite the fact Switzer was more of an offensive-minded coach.
