News Briefs: New Nyack School Head Presides Over First Board of Education Meeting
The new head of the Nyack school district presided over her first Board of Education meeting last Tuesday since taking over earlier this month. Dr. Lizzette Ruiz-Giovinazzi began serving as the district’s acting superintendent, having previously held the role of assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Former superintendent Susan Yom resigned on June 30th. In a post on the school district’s website, Dr. Ruiz-Giovinazzi acknowledged “district leadership transitions” but stressed they are busy this summer hosting summer programs, proceeding with capital improvement projects and welcoming new staff, while shifting the focus to the new academic year.

TZHS Students Volunteer During SOCSD Summer STEAM Camp
Forty-eight Tappan Zee High School students spent their first weeks of summer recess helping out at SOCSD Summer STEAM Camp!. “I’ve volunteered for three years and it’s been so much fun working with the kids on all the different activities,” said Tappan Zee High School student Julia S. “I serve with both the Orangeburg Fire Department and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps and plan to study Fire Science after graduation. As a first responder without younger siblings, volunteering at STEAM Camp has helped me with patient care because I’ve learned how to interact with younger kids and make them feel comfortable.”
