Former UNC basketball player coaching Sacramento Kings in Summer League
While college basketball doesn’t tip off until this Fall, fans can get their fix with the NBA Summer League beginning on Saturday. The California Classic tips off with four teams participating in both San Francisco and Sacramento. And one former UNC basketball player will be coaching a team. The Sacramento Kings will be coached by former UNC forward and national champion Jawad Williams. The team made the decision to allow Williams to get some coaching experience during the NBA’s Summer League here in July. Sheriff's office IDs drug store security guard shot dead in Fremont last month
FREMONT -- A CVS security guard who was shot and killed last month at a store in Fremont was identified by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office as Abakr Mohamed Amin, a 41-year-old Sacramento resident.The shooting at the store in the Fremont Hub Shopping Center occurred at about 11 p.m. on June 13, when Amin was shot after an argument with someone who came into the store.Amin died at the scene after life-saving measures were unsuccessful.The other person was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds.The homicide remains under investigation. Sacramento County stops water deliveries to homeless encampments
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento County is no longer delivering water to homeless encampments during what could become a historic heat wave. According to both the city and county of Sacramento, this was always going to happen . Sacramento County said water deliveries were always going to end, because they were funded by American Rescue Plan Dollars that no longer exist. The funds were part of a contract with SANE to distribute drinking water to encampments, as part of the COVID-19 public health crisis, for the last four years. The pandemic is over and large encampments no longer exist.
