Smithfield resident earns Bates degree

LEWISTON, Maine — Dargan Harris of Smithfield has graduated from Bates College, where she majored in biological chemistry and minored in Latin.

As a freshman, Harris received the Dana Scholar Award, the highest honor Bates bestows on students in their first year. She also received the Bates Senior Scholar Award, which goes to graduating senior who played varsity sports whole maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Harris played soccer and ran track at Bates, where she was a member of Eta Sigma Phi, an honor society for classics students.
