    Investigators seek hit-and-run driver who killed Alabama man

    SMITHS STATION, Ala. ( WRBL ) — A deadly hit-and-run crash Wednesday night has left a Smiths Station man dead and authorities searching for the driver involved.

    Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed Joseph D. Stewart, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:45 p.m. after a pickup truck hit his motorcycle. The crash occurred in the 5000 block of Lee Road 248 (Summerville Road).

    Birmingham police requesting help solving fall 2023 homicide

    Investigators said the driver of the pickup truck left the scene before law enforcement arrived. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is seeking that driver.

    Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash or the whereabouts of the truck to come forward. The State Bureau of Investigation Crime Hotline is a confidential line where a person can report criminal activity at 800-392-8011.
