A voluntary recall of cucumbers and bagged salads sold in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut due to possible listeria contamination has been expanded to include additional produce.Earlier this month, Wiers Farm recalled whole cucumbers and bagged salads with pack dates of June 5 and June 6.While the products involved are past their shelf life, the recall has been expanded to others in response to an investigation.Products involved in the expanded recall were packed between July 5-12 and sold under the brand names Wiers Farm and Freshire Farms.According to the FDA, the move is being made out of an abundance...

Armed with determination, a station wagon, and a few coolers, the Rockville Centre resident began her mission. She discovered many food establishments were discarding excess food at the end of the day and found many people in need of it. This led to the establishment of Island Harvest Food Bank in 1992.

The Valley Stream District 24 Board of Education recently held its annual reorganization meeting to swear in its members and welcome the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Newly elected member Alisa Clark was sworn in for her first year as trustee. Armando Hernandez was sworn in as president, and Melissa Herrera was sworn in as vice president. Superintendent Unal Karakas and district clerk Jennie Padilla were also sworn in for the new year. Attorney Chris Shishko was present to administer the oaths to all incoming officials.

Village awards Grogan with State Senate Veteran Award
Steve Grogan, PIO and publicity chairman for the American Legion Post 335, received the State Senate Veteran Award on Monday. Grogan is a Vietnam-era veteran, who served on active duty for five years as a special agent with US Army Intelligence. He is now an active member of Lynbrook American Legion Post 335.
