ISLIP, N.Y. (PIX11) – A horse was seen hanging out by the bar in a Long Island restaurant over the weekend, according to Humane Long Island. The horse was spotted inside The Harp & Hound at 528 Main St. in Islip, according to social media posts obtained by the humane society. One of the photos showed the horse standing with multiple partons by the bar.

Seeing perfectly good food wasted while women in a nearby shelter struggled to find enough to eat deeply moved Linda Breitstone. This personal connection to the issue spurred her into action. Armed with determination, a station wagon, and a few coolers, the Rockville Centre resident began her mission. She discovered many food establishments were discarding excess food at the end of the day and found many people in need of it. This led to the establishment of Island Harvest Food Bank in 1992.

The Valley Stream District 24 Board of Education recently held its annual reorganization meeting to swear in its members and welcome the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Newly elected member Alisa Clark was sworn in for her first year as trustee. Armando Hernandez was sworn in as president, and Melissa Herrera was sworn in as vice president. Superintendent Unal Karakas and district clerk Jennie Padilla were also sworn in for the new year. Attorney Chris Shishko was present to administer the oaths to all incoming officials.

Village awards Grogan with State Senate Veteran Award
Steve Grogan, PIO and publicity chairman for the American Legion Post 335, received the State Senate Veteran Award on Monday. Grogan is a Vietnam-era veteran, who served on active duty for five years as a special agent with US Army Intelligence. He is now an active member of Lynbrook American Legion Post 335. Town calls for public hearing on shellfish
