For the next six weeks or so, General Hospital’s Adam Huss (Nikolas) will be hanging out in Long Island, NY, to work on a sports drama series. And while the actor is super pumped about his role in Heavy Hitters, he’s also a little sad to leave behind his sweet dog, Sawyer!

In a video message to his followers on his social media accounts, Huss grew a bit blue while talking about the project and how it means he’ll be separated from his fur baby — oh, and his husband, Adam Bucci, too!

“So I’m about to embark on an exciting career opportunity I’m very grateful for — but also facing a sad month and a half separation from my best pal and pup son,” he wrote in the Instagram caption along with his video message. “We were separated for five months when I was on [the Starz series] Ghost, but he was a puppy then. And of course, in great hands with Bucci. I swore I’d never do it again, but sometimes you don’t have a choice.”

Since Bucci, also an actor, has a gig of his own coming up, Sawyer will be without both of his dads for a week or so. Luckily, Huss and Bucci have good friends to watch their dog while they are out of town for work. “He’ll be in good hands, but it still just kills me to leave him, mainly because he’s older. I expect him to be around for a long time, yet I still cherish every moment I’m with him.”

As for Heavy Hitters, the series from director Candice Cain will follow the nation’s top baseball prospects as they go through a pre-draft combine to prove they are the best in the game… while dealing with drama off and on the field. Cain made sure to cast baseball players who are also professional actors as the players. Perhaps Huss will even get to show off his athleticism as Coach Rob Mitchell!

“There are a lot of perks to going of course,” the Long Island native said of his new project. “Acting in a dream series (think Friday Night Lights, but baseball!) and a dream role with amazing people. I’ll be with my family, and it’s fall in NY (the best!). But my heart will definitely be hurtin’. I’ve grown so attached to this dude and while Adam and I can FaceTime etc., Sawyer can’t really register me through that. We do have Furbo [pet camera] and he hears me on there. So at least it’s something.”

In June, Huss and the Heavy Hitters cast enjoyed a kickoff party for the series at a New York Mets game. Instagram

Calling himself “a big sap,” Huss noted that Sawyer gives him so much unconditional love, it will be difficult to be apart for the next few weeks. “But I gotta focus and enjoy this great job and all will be well. Mid-October will be here before we know it.”

Concluding his post, Huss jokingly admitted that Sawyer won’t be the only one he’ll be yearning for while he’s working in New York. “Yes Bucci I’ll miss u too,” he said to his husband, adding a tongue-out emoji.
