Search for missing boater turns into recovery mission on Sodus Bay

SODUS, N.Y. (WROC) – News 8 was informed that a search for a missing boater on Sodus Bay has turned into a recovery mission.

On Sunday, Deputies said witnesses told them a boat in the bay made a hard turn, “ejecting” the two people who were on it.

A woman was brought to shore by the other boaters and taken to a nearby hospital by a mercy flight. Her condition is unknown at this time. The search for the other boater ended Sunday night, but resumed Monday morning.

News 8 was told that this has become a recovery mission and that there is evidence that may show where the missing boater is.

Wayne County Sheriff Deputies say New York State Police, as well as the Alton and Sodus Point Fire Departments, have been assisting.
