Rabid Raccoon Reported on Deans Lane in South Brunswick
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A rabid raccoon was found near Deans Lane in South Brunswick on Saturday, according to the township. The raccoon was retrieved by animal control and was reported to the New Jersey State Department of Health Laboratory. It was confirmed to have rabies on Wednesday. According to a press release, the raccoon had an altercation with a resident’s dog. It is the third rabid animal detected in Middlesex County for this year, according to a press release. Residents are reminded to report any wild animals showing signs of unusual behavior and to avoid contact with them. Common signs of rabies are slow movement, excess saliva, and acting aggressive. State promises clean up of lead-tainted debris on Keyport beach
DEP says that work to remove lead-laden material will begin Monday. State officials unveiled plans Friday to address material found to contain lead on a Raritan Bayshore beach. The advocacy group NY/NJ Baykeeper raised alarms last week after announcing it had discovered the material on beach in Keyport frequented by residents and fishermen.
