'Billiards for Brett' to help Somersworth man who has stage 4 kidney cancer

SOMERSWORTH — Brett Chansky, 53, is a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. In 2023 he started to experience lower back and leg pain. After seeing his doctor and a chiropractor he was sent to an orthopedic. This is where his life changed forever. He was sent to an oncologist for scans and then diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. The cancer had metastasized to his lower back, lymphatic system and some possible signs in the lungs. There is a large tumor in his pelvic area that has fractured his pelvis. The tumor in his pelvis hasn't shrunk as of yet and is causing lots of pain, but he is remaining very positive and continuing to fight through all the challenges.  He's still unable to walk and do many things on his own.

Brett was told this cancer is incurable and inoperable. Brett and his wife Wendy were left feeling overwhelmed. Our family is no stranger to cancer, we lost our mother Diane in 2019 to an aggressive form of this disease. We know all too well the awful strain cancer puts on a family mentally, physically and financially. His wife Wendy is currently unable to work because she needs to be home with Brett full time.

Brett's family is hosting a fundraiser "Billiards for Brett" on Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 10 a.m. at Buster's Billiards, at 369 Route 108 in Somersworth to help the family. Any and all donations are welcomed. All proceeds from the auctions, raffles and monetary donations will go directly toward Brett’s care. Brett and his family appreciate everyone for all the love, support and prayers.

The pool tournament is full already. The event is open to everyone to watch seat, drink, listen to live music and join the raffles and auctions. The Texas Pete band has donated its time to play outside from 2 to 7 p.m.
