    Weekend Two'fer on Somerville Summer Stage: Zaire on Friday, Rainbow Fresh Follows on Saturday

    SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Summer Stage Concert series features live music back-to-back on Friday and Saturday nights this weekend.

    Zaire takes the stage on Friday night, from 7-9 p.m., followed by Rainbow Fresh on Saturday playing from 6-9 p.m.

    Zaire's play list features classic rock from the '60s to today. Zaire is known for their strong 3-part harmonies when covering such artists as the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Beatles, Tom Petty, Rolling Stones and more.

    Rainbow Fresh is a cover band that plays a wide variety of music from the 70s and 80s,classic rock, pop, R&B, dance and Latin.

    The Summer Stage Concert series is sponsored by the Downtown Somerville Alliance  The popular outdoor concert series on the Division Street pedestrian mall is free. and has expanded to include shows on the first Friday night of each month, according to Michelle Kassick, coordinator of the DSA concerts.

    Friday shows will start at 7 p.m. The schedule includes:

    July 5th - Zaire;

    Aug. 2nd - The JJ Lynch Band;

    Sept 6th - Kit and The Cat Dragged In.

    The Saturday night shows, from 6:30-9 p.m., are scheduled through Sept. 14.

    Kassick began the booking process for the concert series in November, with 16 of the 21 bands on the schedule this year as first-timers.

    "We wanted to give as many new bands an opportunity," Kassck said. "There are going to be some bands that are heavier, jazzier, and country. We tried to include a wide variety of genres," she said.

    The Saturday night line-up:

    July 6th - Rainbow Fresh;

    July 13th - The Broadcasters;

    July 20th - Mail Order Bride;

    July 27th - Whole Lotta Led;

    Aug. 3rd - Two Broke Vets;

    Aug. 10th - Stereo Circus;

    Aug. 17th - Diamond Eye Jack;

    Aug. 24th - Rockhorse;

    Aug. 31st - MPack Band;

    Sept. 7th - Bob Lanza;

    Sept. 14th - Junkyard Dawgs.

    Summer Stage is free of charge; Concert goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and/or blankets.
