Whole Lotta Led Pays Tribute to Led Zeppelin in Somerville on Summer Stage July 27

SOMERVILLE, NJ - Whole Lotta Led, a New Jersey-based Led Zeppelin tribute band, will perform on the Summer Stage Saturday night, Aug. 3, beginning at 6 p.m.

The entire performance will be covers from the seminal English rock band, producing hits like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Stairway to Heaven."

Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The band comprised Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass and keyboards) and John Bonham (drums). With a heavy, guitar-driven sound, Led Zeppelin drew from influences including blues and folk music , and are cited as a progenitor of hard rock and heavy metal .

They significantly influenced the music industry, particularly the development of album-oriented rock (AOR) and stadium rock .

Led Zeppelin evolved from a previous band, the Yardbirds , and were originally named the New Yardbirds . They signed a deal with Atlantic Records that gave them considerable artistic freedom. Initially unpopular with critics, they achieved significant commercial success with eight studio albums over ten years.

Their 1969 debut, Led Zeppelin , was a top-ten album in several countries and featured such tracks as " Good Times Bad Times ", " Dazed and Confused " and " Communication Breakdown ". Led Zeppelin II (1969), their first number-one album, included " Whole Lotta Love " and " Ramble On ".

In 1970, they released Led Zeppelin III which opened with " Immigrant Song ". Their untitled fourth album, commonly known as Led Zeppelin IV (1971), is one of the best-selling albums in history, with 37 million copies sold. It includes " Black Dog ", " Rock and Roll " and " Stairway to Heaven ", with the latter among the most popular and influential works in rock.

The concert series is sponsored and hosted by the Downtown Somerville Alliance. The free concerts have expanded to include shows on the first Friday night of each month, according to Michelle Kassick, coordinator of the DSA concerts.

Friday shows will start at 7 p.m. The schedule includes:

Aug. 2nd - The JJ Lynch Band;

Sept 6th - Kit and The Cat Dragged In.

The Saturday night shows, from 6-9 p.m., are scheduled through Sept. 14.

Aug. 3rd - Two Broke Vets;

Aug. 10th - Stereo Circus;

Aug. 17th - Diamond Eye Jack;

Aug. 24th - Rockhorse;

Aug. 31st - MPack Band;

Sept. 7th - Bob Lanza;

Sept. 14th - Junkyard Dawgs.

Concert goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and/or blankets.
