Earthquake Rattles Far Western Suburbs Early This Morning
In the early hours of Monday morning, at approximately 2:53 a.m., a minor earthquake struck about 2 kilometers northwest of Somonauk, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). While there were no reports of damage, the tremor was felt in parts of the western Chicago suburbs, including Yorkville and Oswego.

The weather that rumbled through last night whipped things around a bit and dropped some rain. The Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru reported close to an inch-and-a-half of rain. Two inches of rain was reported north of Dimmick. A listener in Spring Valley texted WLPO that a neighbor's boat had blown across the driveway. Peru Mayor Ken Kolowski was up all night tracking downed power lines in his city, and posting updates to Facebook. Most service has been restored.

CHICAGO (AP) — Storms spawning multiple tornadoes blew through Iowa, Illinois — including Chicago — and Indiana, Monday downing trees and power poles and cutting power to more than 460,000 customers and businesses. The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado hit Des Moines, Iowa, as storms rolled through Monday afternoon and into the night. Des Moines police were responding to calls about utility poles that had apparently snapped in two. ...
Severe weather slams central Illinois, again
For the second time in as many nights, damaging winds caused widespread damage and power outages. The storms Monday night resulted in staggering wind gusts. A corn crib was destroyed by a 105 mile per hour wind gust near Camp Grove in Marshall County. South Pekin clocked a 78 mile per hour wind gust, Elmwood 71 mph and Lewistown 70 mph. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour were common over most of the area. Several communities reported wind damage with the main problem being trees and tree limbs knocking down power lines and causing roads and streets to be blocked. We’ll get a better idea of damage when it’s daylight. The Monday night storms hit as some communities were cleaning up from storms Sunday night which caused damage in Henry and Bloomington.

Tornado Warnings Around the Tri-Counties Illinois
A Radar indicated tornado warning has been issued for parts of Rock Island, Mercer, Whiteside and Henry Counties. The warning is currently from the Quad Cities to Atkinson but the warning is expected to extend southeast. VERY strong winds have been confirmed with these storms. Funnel clouds have been spotted but any possible spin-up may be rain-wrapped. Stay alert and keep a device with you to stay up-to-date with warnings.
