Hudson County Sheriff's Office DWI Checkpoint: Promoting Public Safety
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ – The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs on Thursday, July 25th, by conducting a DWI Checkpoint in the area of Kennedy Blvd and Manhattan Ave in Jersey City. The primary purpose of this checkpoint is not to make arrests, according to Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. Motorcyclist, 31, dies a day after crash with minivan on Staten Island, says NYPD
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man who was seriously injured in a Saturday night crash on Hylan Boulevard has died, according to authorities. James Barry, 31, died a day after his motorcycle was in a crash involving a minivan near Hylan and Dongan Hills Avenue around 10 p.m. on Saturday night, the NYPD told the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com.
Cranford Police Department's Youth Academy Was a Rousing Success
CRANFORD, NJ – Last week, Cranford Police Department hosted their annual Youth Academy which provides middle-school participants with hands-on exposure to various aspects of law enforcement. The Youth Academy offered 40 local Cranford cadets the unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement and gain valuable life skills along the way. “Our goal is to give these kids a real sense of what it means to be a police officer,” said Detective Ali Muhammad, organizer of this year’s academy. Highlights of the week included the New Jersey State Police’s helicopter presentation and a visit from the U.S. Secret Service. The program also covered important topics such as drug awareness, internet safety, and bullying prevention given by CPD’s Juvenile Detectives and Investigation Bureau. Two Tractor-Trailers Crash and Catch Fire in on NJ Turnpike in Monroe Township
MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ (MIDDLESEX)–New Jersey State Police, Sgt. Charles Marchan, told MidJersey.news that Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash at 12:47 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike North, milepost 73, Monroe, Middlesex County, Saturday July 20, 2024. Based on a preliminary investigation, two tractor-trailers were traveling north when they were involved in a collision. After the collision, one of the tractors began to catch on fire. No injuries were reported on scene. The crash remains under investigation, and there is no additional information available.

An Elizabeth woman was arrested in Guttenberg for kicking a police officer after authorities responded to a call of her being an unwanted guest in a home. Toms River Regional schools slammed by budget crisis, but hungry students get a break
TOMS RIVER - There is some good news for parents amid the Toms River Regional school budget crisis: the price of school breakfasts and lunches is set to come down. The Board of Education is expected to agree to lowering the daily price of school breakfasts by 50 cents and school lunches by 75 cents, as the district has an adequate balance in the food service fund.
Car Fire in Underground Garage at Union Stop & Shop Sunday Night
UNION, NJ – An automatic fire alerted Union firefighters to the Stop & Shop at 1201 Stuyvesant Avenue on Sunday night. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully involved vehicle on fire in the underground parking garage, causing heavy smoke. Union Fire Chief Greg Ricciardi said the store above was searched and evacuated. Firefighters stretched a hose to extinguish the fire and the sprinkler system activated, which helped smother the fire, he said.
