    Prep sports recap for May 28, 2024: Notre Dame soccer earns state bid

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Notre Dame is headed to the girls state soccer finals for the first time since 2015.

    The Irish scored a pair of goals in each half and shut out Providence Catholic, 4-0, in the class 2A super-sectional at Kankakee on Tuesday. Abigail Chaddock, Alli Stickelmaier, Ava Lafollette and Shea Larson scored for PND.

    The Irish will face Troy Triad in the state semifinals at 3 p.m. Friday at North Central College in Naperville.

    Chicago St. Ignatius beat Washington, 13-6, in a boys lacrosse super-sectional. The Panthers were seeking their first state berth after winning the school’s first lacrosse sectional last Friday.

    In high school softball, Metamora and Pontiac won games at the 3A Pontiac Sectional. They will face each other in the sectional final in Washington on Friday at 6 p.m.

    Ellie Schaffer blasted a two-run homer to support pitcher Nora Johnson in a 5-1 Metamora win over Washington. Pontiac rallied to score twice in the seventh to beat East Peoria, 5-4, in the other sectional semifinal.
