    Activities

    MISHAWAKA — The Women’s RiverWalking Club, a free club where women and girls of all ages can connect, share stories and explore the great outdoors, will meet at the Ball Band Biergarten, 230 Ironworks Ave., and hike along the Mishawaka Riverwalk, 3.1 miles. Participants can walk whatever distance they feel comfortable with. The club meets from 6 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday from June through August and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays from June through August.

    Classes

    SOUTH BEND — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will offer the free class “Things to Do After the Diagnosis” from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 12 in the Care Partner Academy. Patty Piechocki, director of the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, will lead this live/interactive web session. Participants can connect through their computer.     SOUTH BEND — The St. Joseph County Public Library , Community Learning Center, 305 S. Michigan St., is offering Yoga for EveryBODY from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in Ballroom B.

    SOUTH BEND — RiverBend Cancer Services Wellness House, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., will offer the following “Living Well with Cancer” classes. All classes are free and open to cancer patients, survivors, their families and caregivers; pre-register for all classes by calling 574-287-4197 or e-mail programs@riverbendservices.org .

    • Aug. 11: 1:30 p.m. Head & Neck Support Group.

    • Aug. 12: 10 a.m. Seated Strength; 1 p.m. Zen Coloring/BYO Craft; 2 p.m. Green Cleaning; 5:30 p.m. Gentle Yoga.

    • Aug. 13: 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga; 11:45 a.m. Chair Yoga; Noon Bites & Bits; 1 p.m. MELT; 1 p.m. Garden Club.

    • Aug. 14: 10 a.m. Seated Strength; 10 a.m. Knitting Krew; 2 to 4 p.m. Bra Boutique; 2 p.m. Caregiver Care; 2 p.m. Dominoes; 5:30 p.m. Supper and Support.

    • Aug. 15: 10 a.m. Yarnwork; 10:30 a.m. Chair Yoga; 11:45 a.m. Chair Yoga; 1 p.m. Healthy Cooking with Mary; 3 p.m. Zumba.

    • Aug. 16: 9 a.m. Walking Club.

    ELKHART — Elkhart County Parks will offer Yoga in the Park from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Cobus Creek Shelter, Cobus Creek County Park, 30680 County Road 8. Join registered yoga teacher Amanda for an hour of empowering yoga. All skill levels welcome. Participants, ages 18 and older, should dress for the weather, bring water and a yoga mat.     BUCHANAN — The Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson St., 269-695-7119, offers the following exercise classes and health checks through the end of August. The exercise room is open all hours BASC is open.

    • Mondays: 10 a.m. Chair fitness with Linda; 11 a.m. Dancing to the Oldies with CeCe; 2 p.m. Qigong exercise.

    • Tuesdays: 9 a.m. Osteo fit with Missy; 5:30 p.m. Powerbeats with Missy.

    • Wednesdays: 10:15 a.m. Chair fitness with CeCe.

    • Thursdays: 11 a.m. Chair yoga.

    • Fridays: 9 a.m. Powerbeats with Missy; 10 a.m. Chair fitness with Lizz.

    • Blood Pressure Checks — Always Best Care Senior Services will be at the BASC from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 8 and Aug. 22.

    • Hearing Aid Checks — Dr. Michelle Ridenour from Miracle Ear, will be at the center from 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 13, to check ears for wax, clean hearing aids, and answer questions. Call the BASC to register.

    • Senior Nutrition – SNS/Meals on Wheels of SW Michigan announces the meal site in the Center is open. Lunch starts at noon. Call Kerri at 269-695-7119 by 10 a.m. Monday-Friday to reserve your meal the next business day. Seating is limited. Ask about home delivery service for qualifying homebound seniors. Must be 60 years or older.

    • Pamper Your Feet — Monthly foot clinic through Blessed Feet LLC, beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 15. Initial appointment fee is $40; all subsequent appointments will cost $30 (checks payable to Blessed Feet, LLC). Not covered under any insurance. Call the BASC to schedule an appointment. Participants must have a consent form completed by their doctor prior to first visit. Forms available at the BASC.

    • Fireside Chats with Gayla, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Aug. 8: Group Chat — bring your topic to the table; Aug. 22: Group discussion on grief.

    • Memory Rescue: Build Your Bright Minds from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22, 29 and Sept. 5. Learn about the 11 lifestyle factors that affect your ability to keep your brain healthy. Discover practical techniques to have a better memory. Plan on attending all three classes. This is an interactive program. Fee: $5 due by Aug. 14. Registration required by calling the BASC.

    Events

    MISHAWAKA — VA Northern Indiana will host a Vet Fest Resource Fair at the Jackie Walorski VA Clinic, 1540 Trinity Place, to share information about benefits and services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16. Representatives will be on-site to answer questions about healthcare enrollment, toxic exposure screenings, Veterans Benefits Administration, Indiana Department Veterans Affairs, Indy Honor Flight and Blue Star Moms. There will also be a small ceremony to commemorate Jackie Walorski’s birthday.

    ELKHART — Cancer Resources for Elkhart County will hold its annual Compassion Walk at The Wellfield Botanic Garden at 9 a.m. Aug. 24. The Compassion Walk is free, but you can help raise money by creating your own team at givebutter.com/2024CompassionWalk . Donations also accepted at this site. Cancer Resources has served 160 cancer patients so far in 2024. All money raised stays in Elkhart County.

    Support Groups

    NILES — The Niles-Buchanan YMCA offers a free, in-person grief support group for adults who have experienced the death of someone significant. This is an open-ended monthly support group, which means you can attend or leave whenever you choose. The group will meet Aug. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, 905 N. Front St. Space is limited. Register by calling 269-983-2707.

    ELKHART — The Elkhart Epilepsy Support Group has moved to the Elkhart Health and Aquatic Center’s Library, 200 E. Jackson Blvd. Take the door entrance to the right of the building and the library is the first door on the right. The August meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 15. In September and beyond, the group will meet at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month.     ST. JOSEPH — When you are grieving, it can be tough getting out and socializing again. Help ease the transition by joining us the second Friday of every month for “Just Coffee” from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lory’s Place, 445 Upton Drive. Meet this month on Aug. 9.

    NILES — Enjoy a walk along the River Valley Trail with others who are grieving to walk and talk in a supportive environment. There are areas to rest along the path as needed. This is an open group and there is no registration needed. This is an adult-only group. All groups begin in the parking lot of the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, 905 N. Front St. This walk will be held the third Wednesday through Sept. 18, weather permitting. The next walk is Aug. 15.
