ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (July 17, 2024) – Ken Gallop loves the atmosphere. So much so that he keeps coming back. More than 75 boats and about 750 anglers — no Michael Jordan this time — are competing this week in the fourth annual Jimmy Johnson’s Quest for the Ring fishing tournament, based at Frank S. Farley State Marina at Golden Nugget Atlantic City, with a secondary weigh station in Ocean City, Maryland.

A rising freshman at Cape Henlopen High School, this honor roll student led the Lewes Yacht Club/Sussex Family YMCA swim team to a 485-127 victory over the Rehoboth Beach Country Club squad this week. Jack earned wins in the 100 individual medley and the 50 backstroke. He also swam to second for the 50 free in a blazing 25 seconds. Jack was a state finalist this winter season as an eighth-grader at Sussex Academy in the grueling 500 freestyle. He also swims for Sussex Family YMCA during the winter season, when he was a district champion in the 200 fly. Last summer, he was the summer league champ in the 50 back. "Jack is primed to have another great Delmarva Swim Association summer championships meet next week," said coach Mike Vansant. "He's a great swimmer and a great kid."

Cape coach Ben Evick continued his Cape Henlopen Vikings Baseball Camp July 15-18, with high school-aged players at Chris Short Field in Lewes. Evick and and varsity assistant Seth Brosius along with college players Owen Daminger, Barritt Ross and Timmy Hitchcock trained the campers in advanced base running, throwing mechanics, bunting skills, communication, hitting and advanced defensive skill work.
Milton majors force winner-take-all game against Lewes
The Milton majors all-star team forced a winner-take-all game for the District 3 title after completing a come-from-behind 6-5 win over Lewes July 18. Since falling to Lewes 6-1 July 11 in the opening round, Milton has reeled off five straight wins against Millsboro, Lower Sussex, Nanticoke, Georgetown and now Lewes.

The combined Lewes Yacht Club and Sussex Family YMCA swim teams downed the Rehoboth Beach Country Club squad July 15 at the RBCC pool. The score wasn’t that important – LYC/SFY won 485 to RBCC’s 127, but the high-spirited matchup was fun for everyone, with local bragging rights for the winners.
