Ocean Isle Beach, NC USA
I was going to the local planetarium in the Sunset Beach NC area. I saw one of the hearts hanging but left it where it was. I think the reason I left it is because I found another one hanging on a tree nearby and it was made with cat and claws fabric. I love cats and have three boy cats. My two sons each have two cats as well. I have rescued several cats and either adopted them or found them homes. My heart is full when I have cats around. I also adopted a neighbors kitty after he passed away. This had to be a sign when I found this heart. I love my heart and it is hanging where I can see it every day. Thank you all for what you do with these wonderful hearts. Sincerely, Debby.

Oak Island’s 2024 turtle season is off to a slow start, but those familiar with the annual visitors know Mother Nature can change things in a hurry. Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program (OISTPP), an all-volunteer nonprofit, registered the first nest – of not only its season but the state’s – on May 6, and as of June 28 had reported 47 totals finds so far in 2024, all loggerheads. OISTPP co-coordinator Suzan Bell said the current number of nests is lining with up with 2020, when there were a total of 96 for the year. OITC has reported more than 100 nests every year since.

The first fishing derby was held July 5, 2014, and on July 6, nearly 10 years to the day after the inaugural derby, the St. James Fishing Club welcomed another 148 kids to its annual holiday event on a muggy Saturday morning that included plenty of action.
