    Susan Smith, the South Carolina mother who drowned her two sons, has an upcoming parole date, and her now ex-husband David Smith intends to oppose her release. Reportedly, David Smith, who has since remarried and moved on from her, reminiscences about his sons every day. David also “doesn’t ever want Susan to get out.”

    In 1994, Susan, then 22, let her car roll into a lake with her two sons still strapped into the seats. The boys—Michael, 3, and Alexander, 14 months—drowned and died as she stood watching by the lake. Susan later lied to authorities and appeared on national television with her husband, David Smith, pleading for help. Nine days later, she confessed to the crime, claiming an affair was her motive.

    Prosecutors later alleged that Susan Smith ‘s affair with then-boyfriend Tom Findlay drove her to murder her sons. A week before the incident, Findlay wrote a letter to Susan, explaining he couldn’t be with her because of her children.

    Susan Smith, now in South Carolina’s Leath Correctional Institution, has a parole hearing on November 4, 2024. Susan has been serving a life sentence for murdering their two sons and believes “it’s time for me to get out,” reported The New York Post .

    In 1994, Susan, who was married to now ex-husband David Smith at the time, drowned her two sons in the John D. Long Lake. The boys were strapped into their car seats when she rolled the vehicle into the lake. She later lied to authorities that a Black man had carjacked the car and took her children. However, nine days later, she made a shocking confession.

    Reportedly, Susan Smith confessed to drowning her children to be with her then-lover, Tom Findlay, who did not want children. A week before the incident, Findlay wrote a letter to Susan, which prosecutors alleged was the mother’s motive to murder her children. In the letter, Findlay wrote, “Susan, I could really fall for you,” claiming that some things about her didn’t suit him. He added, “Yes, I am speaking about your children.”

    In 1995, Susan Smith stood trial on two counts of murder, which resulted in her conviction and a life sentence. Susan’s husband, David Smith, has since moved on, remarried, and now has two children.

    One of David Smith’s relatives claimed that he “still thinks of his boys every day, and doesn’t ever want Susan to get out,” reported Fox News . He plans to oppose Susan’s release because “she belongs in jail… she is exactly where she needs to be – in prison. And we will do what it takes to keep her there.”

    Susan Smith’s notorious case has aired on several true crime shows previously. American Justice aired “The Susan Smith Story: A Mother’s Confession” in 2004. All American Justice episodes are available to watch on A&E.
