Pittsburgh nonprofit creates space for people on sobriety journey to socialize and learn
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A relatively new non-profit organization in Pittsburgh is creating a safe and vibrant space for people on a journey of sobriety to connect, socialize and learn. At the Teetotal Initiative, organizers plan unique activities and experiences at different locations around the city. It's all free of charge and free of alcohol. President Jackie Slaugenhaupt says Teetotal is marking its one-year anniversary. "We provide social space for people to go to that's sober-focused, so they can meet other like-minded people and have fun and be out and about in the community and just kind of have a good time and live life to the fullest." It's been life-changing for participants like Brett Hammon. "It's been really cool getting to meet people in a similar stage of life who are professionals and don't drink and want to go do something fun," Hammon said. "Just being out and about doing cool things with people is a big win for me."Mocktails replace cocktails at events like yoga sessions, bingo games, crafting, cooking and golf. There was even a comedy night featuring sober comedians.
Mt. Lebanon addressing water cloudiness at township pool
Water cloudiness has forced some periodic closures this season at the Mt. Lebanon Swim Center, 900 Cedar Boulevard. David Donnellan, Director of Recreation for the township, addressed the issue at a commissioners discussion meeting June 25 and posted about the subject July 10 on the Parks and Recreation page of the township’s website.

Beginning Monday, July 22, drivers navigating through the area of Highland Bridge will need to prepare for detours and potential delays, as construction teams move in to repair the vital piece of infrastructure. PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The city of Pittsburgh honored a local legend on Saturday.Gus Kalaris of Gus and Yayia's Ice Ball Cart died earlier this month at the age of 92.Several people and city officials gathered to celebrate his legacy at Allegheny Commons Park.Mayor Ed Gainey says Gus' memory goes well beyond his product."It's hard to replace a legend, Mayor Gainey said, "but it's really not about the product that they serve that makes them. It's the love that they pour out. The one thing that people will tell you about Gus is that when they came here, he made them feel special."The mayor says city officials already have plans to name a street after Gus in Allegheny Commons Park so his kindness will live on forever.
Pickle-flavored food and drinks bring thousands to Downtown Pittsburgh

I-79 Traffic Shift Monday Night in Robinson Township
PennDOT District 11 is announcing a traffic shift on southbound Interstate 79 in Robinson Township, Allegheny County will occur Monday, July 22 weather permitting. The southbound I-79 lanes at the I-376 interchange will be shifted to the left into a new configuration of two 11-foot-wide lanes and a one-foot shoulder. The new traffic pattern will begin once line painting operations conclude and will remain in place continuously through mid-August. The shift will be implemented to accommodate bridge deck overlay work. All interchange ramp access will be maintained.
Route 88 Library Road Slide Repair Begins Monday in Castle Shannon
PennDOT District 11 is announcing slide repair work on Route 88 (Library Road) in Castle Shannon Borough, Allegheny County will begin Monday, July 22 weather permitting. Slide repair and shoulder reconstruction work will occur on Library Road between Havelock Street and Killarney Drive through early August. To allow the work to occur, the southbound lane on Library Road will close to traffic at Killarney Drive. Southbound traffic will be shifted into the center turning lane. A single-lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during this work.
Overdose deaths in Allegheny County are dropping, medical examiner says
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Overdose deaths are dropping in Allegheny County, according to the county's medical examiner. They've been on the decline the last couple of years after a decade-high mark in 2017.Overdoses impact communities of all backgrounds and social statuses.
