(FOX40.COM) — The results of testing at two Lake Tahoe beaches for harmful algae blooms may help determine the cause of a dogs death in the area over the July 4th weekend.

The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board and the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection carried out water sample collections on July 8 and July 10.

Water was collected from El Dorado Beach in California and Nevada Beach in Nevada based on interviews with the reporting party by the California Interagency Harmful Algal Bloom-related illness.

Results from the sample testing found that neither beach showed signs of having toxins related to harmful algal blooms.

126 lightning strikes hit Tahoe National Forest, several fires ignited

A shallow pond not connected to the lake in the area of Nevada Beach was found to have low levels of a toxin call saxitoxin.

While the pond is mostly fenced off, the two organizations suggested that it be fully fenced off to protect the public.

Neither beach will be under a harmful algal bloom advisory, but an advisory has been issued for the backwater pond at Nevada Beach.

Although these results do allow existing advisories to be lifted from the beaches they do not help determine the cause of death for the dog.
