South Lyon teen conquers fears, advances on 'American Ninja Warrior'
LOS ANGELES — South Lyon senior Riley Porter was back in attack mode on "American Ninja Warrior" Monday night. The now-17-year-old made it through the qualifying round on the July 1 episode of the popular NBC reality show, in which contestants tackle multiple ground and airborne obstacles in a race to press a buzzer in the shortest amount of time. She will compete in the semifinals in a head-to-head race; that episode will air July 22.
Man's body recovered from Harris Lake in Pontiac
PONTIAC, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man's body was recovered from Harris Lake in Pontiac.Steve Huber, public information officer for the sheriff's office, said authorities were at the lake on Tuesday after they were alerted about the body at 12:30 p.m. Huber told CBS News Detroit that the 38-year-old man was believed to be homeless and they were working to notify the family.It was unclear if the man accidentally drowned or if there was foul play.An autopsy is set for Wednesday.The sheriff's office did not release any additional information.

HOWELL — The Daily has confirmed Jeremy Michael Heath, 48, who faces open murder charges for a shooting at Metro Studios Ink in downtown Howell, was also a suspect in a high-profile Oakland County murder in 2009. The open murder charge was announced by the Howell Police Department on Tuesday, July 2, joining charges of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. Michigan woman, dog die in Oakland County house fire
(CBS DETROIT) - A 37-year-old Michigan woman and her dog died in a house fire Sunday, officials said.Authorities received a call from an acquaintance of Lakeisha Arnae Moton of Pontiac, who reported that she wasn't getting a response when she tried to get in contact with Moton. Oakland County deputies and Waterford fire officials responded to Moton's home in the 600 block of Raskob just after 1 p.m.When they arrived, they found a fresh layer of soot covering the home, and they found Moton lying unresponsive in the hallway of the single-story home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities also say the fire likely began in the home's kitchen. A dog was in a kennel inside the house at the time of the fire and also died. An autopsy revealed that smoke inhalation was the cause of death and that the manner of her death was accidental.

Livingston & Western Oakland Meals on Wheels in Brighton is a nonprofit organization that utilizes more than 500 volunteers to deliver daily meals to 1,600-plus homebound seniors 60 years of age or older in the Livingston County and western and southeast Oakland County. It provides a nutritious meal, human contact, and a safety check Monday through Friday. The organization delivers frozen meals on Fridays to be used on Saturday and Sunday. The program is conducted alongside the Livingston County Senior Nutrition Program.
