The event started at 4:00 in the afternoon, and was scheduled to continue well into the evening.

At 7:00 pm, Town Hall Delicatessen, held its annual Sloppy Eating Contest. The contest has a simple format. This year there were 13 vying for the Title which is awarded to the person who eats the largest number of sections from a sloppy joe. Everyone is seated at the same table, and the instructions are simple: Eat as many as you can in the span of 3 minutes and 20 seconds – the length of the accompanying song. When the song ends, no new sections can be started, and any food in a contestant’s mouth may be finished.

Each contestant reports the number of sections eaten, and the three who have eaten the most are awarded First, Second and Third Place by Wonski.

In first place was Scott Egelberg, for a total of Five First Place Finishes, the last three in succession.

Next up was Susan Haig conducting the South Orange Symphony Orchestra, which played a number of pieces.

The event also had food trucks, ice cream trucks, fun games and arts projects for all and a beer garden. Also present were the South Orange Police, the SEFD for a period until called away, and members and equipment from the South Orange Rescue Squad.
