Sgt. Maria Hernandez with DPS told ValleyCentral that the vehicles involved were a Ford Pinto and a Mercedes SUV.

According to DPS, South Padre Island police received a call of a vehicle that was stalled on the westbound lane of the causeway shortly before the crash. Hernandez added that the Ford was either slowing down or stalled, and was struck from behind by the Mercedes.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
