Ward 4 Update – July 2024
I always look forward to the monsoon season here in the desert. The rains are welcome but the intense rains often present challenges with our infrastructure. In an effort to protect the traveling public during storms, the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) initiated its Operation Splash campaign. Crews from the DTM’s Streets Maintenance Division have been busy staging barricades at hundreds of dip crossings throughout the city. During monsoon season, DTM Street Maintenance staff members are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through mid-September. As washes flood, crews will close roadways at dip crossings and washes using the more than 500 barricades placed on the side of the roadways, near the crossings. For the ninth consecutive year, DTM will assist residents concerned with flooding by offering free sandbags in the east parking lot of Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, at Reid Park. The self-serve sandbag site is open. Sand and sandbags will be provided by DTM staff, but residents should bring their own shovels. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle. Remember, a barricade in place on a roadway is a sign that unsafe conditions exist ahead. You can follow DTM on social media for up-to-date information on the sandbag station and road closures that occur during the monsoon. We know that the heavy rains will also reopen potholes and create some new ones. Lovely, right? We do our best to proactively patrol areas and report potholes for Ward 4, but our ward is geographically the largest in the city and we appreciate your help in reporting potholes when you notice them. There are several ways to report potholes, as well as getting support on other issues. You can download the Tucson 311 App from Google Play or the App Store, email: tdotconcers@tucsonaz. gov or call 311. Our Parks & Recreation team will be out and about in Ward 4, and across the city, bringing more activities to our parks via our Ready. Set. Rec! vans. Here is the schedule to find a fun event near you: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/Departments/Parks-and-Recreation/ ReadySetRec My kids don’t want me to mention this because they are not ready to talk about it, but as we Vail School District families prepare to head back to school, I want to wish all of the families, teachers, staff, and students a great upcoming school year. Hopefully you are able to go back with a full battery, having rested and made some great memories over the summer. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team at the Ward 4 Council Office.
