Taylor schools closing on Fridays over summer break
TAYLOR, Mich. (FOX 2) - In an attempt to save money, the Taylor School District will close almost all of their buildings on Friday for the next six weeks. In a letter to the community, Supt. Michael Wegher said the district will reduce costs on utilities and other expenses related to opening the buildings for a fifth day.
Madonna University to provide free mental health services to southeast Michigan residents
LIVONIA — Madonna University's Master of Science in Clinical Psychology program will soon begin offering no-cost psychotherapy services to metro Detroit residents. The program's aim is to help those aged 13 or older who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford seeing a therapist, but is open to anyone seeking therapy. Services will come at no charge, regardless of one's income or whether a patient has insurance.
Detroit teachers ratify contract, send deal to school board for approval
DETROIT – The Detroit Federation of Teachers announced it has reached a deal with Detroit Public Schools Community District. The deal was ratified by membership with 1,100 members voting. The union said 82.8% of members voted yes and 17.2% of members voted no. The contract now goes to the Detroit Board of Education for their approval at the July school board meeting.

In a partnership between Apple and MSU, the academy is a 10-month program focused on coding, design, marketing, artificial intelligence and more. Wayne State University approves 4.5% tuition increase for undergraduate, graduate students
(CBS DETROIT) - Wayne State University has approved a 4.5% tuition increase for undergraduate and graduate students.According to a new release, tuition for undergraduate, lower-division students who are utilizing the flat-rate tuition will increase by $281 per semester.Housing rates for the upcoming school year will not increase."The board's decision to increase tuition was difficult and only agreed to after systematic analysis and detailed discussions," board chair Shirley Stancato said in a statement. Next generation of artists have work in DIA’s high school show
GROSSE POINTES/DETROIT — Students at schools in the Grosse Pointes are once again getting a chance to showcase their artistic skills at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The third annual Wayne County High School Art Exhibition opened June 21 and will be on view until July 21 at the DIA. Of more than 200 submissions from students at 70 high schools across the county, 81 works were chosen for the exhibition — 15 of which came from students who attend schools in the Pointes.
