MARSHALL - The Madison County Board of Commissioners heard updates on its potential state legislative assistance during the board's July 9 meeting. Dodie Renfer, president of Electus Governmental Affairs, appeared before the board to provide a state legislative assistance update. Based in Raleigh, Renfer is a graduate of Mars Hill University and assists with state and federal government relations and consults on legislative, regulatory and policy matters.

Another earthquake was recorded near Sparta in Alleghany County on Saturday, marking the fourth one in less than a month. This quake measured 2.2 magnitude and was centered 4.1 miles south-southeast of Sparta, 26.9 miles west of Mount Airy, and 36.5 miles east-northeast of Boone at 4:44 am, according to the United States Geological Society.
