McCormick’s Creek unveils new trail accessible to all

SPENCER, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– McCormick’s Creek has just opened Echo Canyon Trail, a new trail through the state park that is accessible to any member of the public including those with limited mobility.

McCormick’s Creek describes the trail as “a short loop with a natural, firm and stable surface, and gradual slopes, allowing guests with limited mobility to enjoy views of Echo Canyon.” As per their press release. The new trail is also adjacent to the Park’s Centennial Shelter, and also has a short offshoot that connects it to the Redbud Shelter and the park’s Nature Center. The loop will also contain multiple accessible overlooks featuring views of McCormick’s Creek Falls and measures at almost half a mile.

Funding for this endeavor was done through part of a legislative appropriation of deferred maintenance dollars for the Indiana DNR along with the Owen County Community Foundation-McCormick’s Creek State Park Fund.

“This trail provides a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy the sights and sounds of the canyon at our first state park,” said Indiana State Parks director Terry Coleman. “We are grateful for the funding to complete this project and for the work our Indiana State Parks team did with the Indiana Department of Administration and Spectrum Trail Design to make it a reality.”
