State leaders clash over access to Oklahoma Board of Education's executive sessions
OKLAHOMA CITY — A showdown is set for the Oklahoma State Board of Education on Wednesday, as two state leaders are at odds over who can enter the board's executive sessions. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond's office sent a letter to the Board of Education earlier this month, saying lawmakers must be allowed into these meetings if the topics being discussed fall under any committee or constituency that the lawmaker is on or represents.
Oklahoma's 988 received nearly twice as many calls in its second year: What to know
Calls to Oklahoma's 988 Mental Health Lifeline shot up by 44% in its second full year of operation, a rise officials attribute to growing awareness of the helpline, continued mental health challenges, access to illegal substances and the reduction of stigma surrounding receiving support. OKC Back-to-School Cool
The early days of August are dedicated to soaking up the remnants of a wide-ranging agenda (for the kids, that is) and making the plethora of arrangements needed for the start of a new school year (for the parents). Heroes in training: EMSA Advantage program offers free EMT training to inspire the next generation of first responders
Real-life superheroes can be found in the form of first responders. Luckily for Tulsa, there is also a superhero academy in the city. EMSA had a big problem during COVID-19, says Adam Paluka, chief public affairs officer. Fewer graduates from external EMT programs were entering the field, and many seasoned EMTs and paramedics were leaving the industry. It was not sustainable. Instead of relying on external programs to produce qualified EMTs, “we decided to develop EMSA Advantage to ‘grow our own,’” Paluka adds.
