NWI Man Receives National Recognition as Volunteer of the Year
A 92-year-old northwest Indiana man was named ‘Volunteer of the Year’ by Virginia-based Catholic Charities USA this Spring and will receive the honor during a special presentation later this year. A news release says John “Jack” Halton volunteers for Catholic Charities Food Pantry and Hunger Relief Services based in East Chicago, helping to stock shelves and pack bags of groceries for struggling families, seniors, veterans and the disabled. He has also built 13 raised garden beds for veterans and low-income elderly and planted 225 container gardens for food distribution events.
4 Oklahoma tribes receive federal funding for housing needs
