Spokane Fire rescues dog stuck on bank near Riverfront Park

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A dog that slid off the trail and onto the bank of the Spokane River in Downtown Spokane was rescued by fire crews on Wednesday night, according to Spokane Fire Department.

On June 26 around 9 p.m., SFD responded to reports of a dog stuck along the river bank near Washington Street Bridge and Riverfront Park.

According to SFD, the dog was roaming free when it slid off the trail near the Centennial Hotel.

Fire crews rescued the dog without incident and it was returned to it's owner unharmed.

"The entire problem was that he was roaming free, got too near the edge and took a plunge," said an official with SFD.

SFD said it's important to keep dogs on a leash, especially near the river.
