Seven Spokane officers and a police K-9 were injured during a police pursuit Friday afternoon. They were chasing a suspect vehicle from a recent drive-by shooting.

Just before 1 p.m. SWAT and a K-9 officer spotted the vehicle after clearing another call.

The K-9 officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects fled, and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle went into a residential neighborhood and as the SWAT vehicle moved in to assist, the suspect vehicle crashed into the SWAT vehicle at the intersection of West Carlisle Avenue and North Oak Street.

The K-9 officer then crashed into the suspect vehicle.

The crash was all caught on home surveillance video.

Interim Spokane Police Chief Justin Lundgren says that the injuries to all of the officers were minor.

“Several Spokane Police officers were injured today while making an arrest. Any injury is tragic, but I am grateful it did not result in the loss of life. My thoughts are with the officers and their families,” said Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown.

The three suspects were also injured. They were taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“This particular incident highlights the challenges our patrol officers are up against every day with the number of shootings they investigate and the behavior of the suspects, not only while committing these violent crimes, but the great lengths they’ll go to escape. It puts the community at risk,” said Chief Lundgren.
