SPOONER — The Shell Lake/Spooner high school fishing team competed in four Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association ice fishing tournaments. Each event requires somewhat different strategies as to species and sizes needed for success. Teams pick the day and waters they will fish and submit measurement photos to the judges through an app called Fish Donkey.

Shell Lake/Spooner finished 10th out of 61 schools in the 250 Challunge and 29th of 96 schools in the January Jamboree. Two teams compete as one in the North/South Tag Team event. Students had a tough bite that day and dragged Germantown down with them to finish 18th of the 19 the school pairings. The season wrapped up with a 29th place finish of 59 schools in the state championship.

Friends into Spooner Hatchery sponsors both an ice and a summer fishing contest for all Shell Lake and Spooner high school students. Students don’t have to be a team member. Registration for the summer contest will open soon. Watch for announcements at school.
