    Northwood/Solon Springs girls win over Cornell/Lake Holcombe

    MINONG — A big 14-hit day catapulted the Northwood/Solon Springs (NWSS) to a nice 14-5 opening day victory over Cornell/Lake Holcombe on April 9.

    NWSS jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings of the game, scoring 2 runs in the fourth and 5 more in the fifth for the win. Cornell/Lake Holcombe’s runs all came in the top of the fifth.

    Batting for NWSS, Audrey Swanson was 1-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Izzy Golembiewski was 2-2 with 2 runs. Paetyn Simenson was 4-4 with 1 run and 3 RBIs. Kendall Nelson was 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

    Emily Adrihan was 1-2 with 3 runs and 1 RBI. Lily Borst was 2-4. Zoey Wilson was 3-4 with 4 runs and 2 RBIs. She also posted a triple.

    Getting stolen bases were Adrihan, Simenson, Golembwski, and Swanson.

    Borst was the winning pitcher, going 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs. Wilson pitched 1 inning, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs.

    On Thursday, April 18, starting at 5 p.m., NWSS hosts Birchwood/Winter at Northwood High School in Minong. Tuesday, April 23, the team is on the road for a game at Prairie Farm.
