    Rails defeat Ashland; Shell Lake, Northwood/Solon Springs get wins

    SPOONER — The Spooner Rails picked up a big Heart O’ North Conference victory in a close game on Monday, May 6, as they hosted the Ashland Oredockers. The Rails played hard, edging Ashland 3-2 to earn the victory.

    The win kept Spooner in third place in the tough HON Conference with a record of 8-5. Coach Josh Villella and the Rails are currently 11-6 in all games this season.

    The Rails played at Hayward on Tuesday, May 7. Spooner will return home to Merchant Park on Friday, May 10, to host Barron in an HON doubleheader. The first game gets started at 4 p.m., and will be followed by game two at approximately 6 p.m.

    Northwood/Solon Springs

    In other local action on Monday, May 6, Northwood/Solon Springs remained undefeated and in first place in the Lakeland East Conference, topping Clear Lake 10-2.

    The victory over the Warriors improved the Evergreens to a perfect record of 8-0 in conference play, and 10-0 in all games.

    Northwood/Solon Springs hosted Flambeau on Tuesday, May 7. On Thursday, May 9, the Evergreens will travel to play at Birchwood/Winter at 5 p.m.

    Shell LakeIn the Lakeland West Conference, Shell Lake remained in first place with a record of 7-2 and 8-4 in all games as they beat the Unity Eagles 10-3.

    The Lakers hosted Clayton/Turtle Lake on Tuesday, May 7. On Thursday, May 9, Shell Lake will host Luck/Frederic at 5 p.m.
