SPOONER — Washed and sparkling in the rising morning sunshine, the firefighting vehicles of the Spooner Fire District were lined up outside the Fire Hall on Saturday morning, Aug. 2, of Jack Pine Savage Days weekend in town.

The Spooner firemen were not only ready to protect individuals, homes and businesses in case of emergency and fire, they were also cooking breakfast!

The Fireman’s Breakfast is one of the most popular parts of Jack Pine Savage Days in Spooner every summer. People began arriving early.

Outside the Fire Hall, sizzling sausage patties were cooking on the grill. Inside, people lined up for pancakes — regular, blueberry and chocolate chip. There were strawberries, maple syrup, orange juice, hot coffee and milk.

The meal also featured old friends and new getting together to just relax, enjoy breakfast and have a conversation. In a world that tends to race by too quickly sometimes, that is important.

And so it went through the morning. Another Fireman’s Breakfast, another tasty treat for those attending Jack Pine Savage Days in Spooner. Thanks, firefighters, for all that you do. And thanks for a great breakfast!
