Events at the library

SHELL LAKE — Thursday, Aug. 15, is our second Story Hour with Embrace at 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. at Shell Lake Public Library. You are welcome to come to any Story Hour you are able to attend. Our book will be “Hands Are Not For Hitting.” We will have a craft and snack after the story. The recommended age group for this Story Hour is 1-6.

Death Cafe is slightly moving! It will be on the third Thursday of the month. Death Cafe will be meeting Thursday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. A Death Cafe is a safe and welcoming space where people come together to have open, honest and respectful conversations about death and dying. This is not a grief support group, counseling session or a faith-based program but rather an opportunity to discuss a subject that is so fundamental to life yet frequently avoided in mainstream conversations. Death Cafe is an informal and unique social gathering for people to talk about whatever is on their mind as it relates to death and dying. In the tradition of Death Cafes around the world, cake will be served.

Silent Book Club will be meeting Monday, Aug. 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. Silent Book Club is a great way for adults who are enthusiastic about discussing books and authors to meet other enthusiastic readers. The first half hour is reserved for discussing current and recent reads. The second half hour is for reading in the library, perusing the shelves, but is normally a continuation of our lively discussion. If able, let the library know ahead of time what book(s) you will be discussing so we can have it available for other members to check out. Light refreshments are provided by the library.
