    Spooner School Board recognizes individuals, organizations for partnerships

    SPOONER — A number of individuals and organizations were recognized by the Spooner School Board Committee of the Whole at the Monday, Aug. 5 meeting.

    Summer School partners Spooner Health, Best Western Hotel, Tommy G. Thompson Fish Hatchery, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-Spooner Office, Spooner Memorial Library, Wisconsin 4-H, Lakeland Family Resource Center (LFRC), the Washburn County Area Humane Society and Kevin McMullin were recognized for their support. Spooner Health has been a major contributor to creating innovation in the Summer School Program, including development of a new course called Health Careers.

    Best Western made the hotel’s swimming pool available for students to learn how to swim.

    The Fish Hatchery gave tours to students to learn about its operations, and the DNR provided fishing equipment for the afternoon Mighty Engines program.

    Katy Larson of the library has provided support for the elementary school programs and leadership through volunteer teachers.

    Beth Rank from 4-H has taught courses for the elementary school with hands-on outdoor and life skills.

    LFRC has collaborate with the district on community events and programming.

    The humane society offers volunteer programs for middle school students to learn real-world responsibility of animal care.

    McMullin has taught students how to play chess and guide them in their skills.

    The high school volleyball team has volunteered for the Spooner Rodeo, assisting with parking and directing traffic, as well as serving food.
