SPOONER — The Northwest Wisconsin Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited came through in a big way for area high school trap shooting clubs this week.

Northwest Wisconsin Chapter donated $2,000 each to Spooner’s Northland Trap Team and the Shell Lake FFA team.

Spooner’s team is currently made up of 12 members and coached by Darby and Austin Moltzer. The team started in 2016 and shoots at the Indianhead Rifle & Pistol Club in Spooner. The team is not affiliated with Spooner High School, though team members can earn letters. Members are high school students.

The Shell Lake team currently has 23 members and was represented by assistant coach Todd Coons at Veterans Waterfront Park, where the checks were presented. With Coons was Shell Lake FFA President Trey Bos. The Shell Lake team began in 2017. They are affiliated by the school, and members can earn letters. Members must be in FFA and can range in age from seventh graders through high school. They shoot at Tuscobia Trap Club.

Both teams take part in competitive shooting events. On hand to present the $2,000 checks to the Spooner and Shell Lake high school trap teams were Northwest Wisconsin Chapter Vice President Dick Hartmann and President Dave Zaloudek.
