As he continues to work his way back from a sprained ankle suffered at practice last week, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson showed just a little more progress toward his return on Thursday.

Wilson was originally sporting a boot in the wake of his injury, which head coach Mike Tomlin revealed was a precaution. But he quickly shed that in a few days, leaving him with just a brace on his ankle.

However, at practice on Thursday, Wilson was sans brace, although he did not actually take part in the practice, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor .

Wilson is still considered week-to-week, so it remains to be seen if he'll get some much-needed snaps in the preseason in the weeks ahead. But the good news is, the rookie is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Wilson was having a strong camp before going on the shelf. The Steelers are already shaky at the wide receiver position, and Wilson himself is among the question marks, considering he's a rookie who has never taken a snap in the NFL.

The Michigan product should have a role right away, but how big that role is will depend upon how quickly he gets back, and if the Steelers make a trade for a certain wide receiver.
