Who is Jaguars' worst NFL Draft pick in the last five years?

The NFL Draft is filled with players who fail to meet their potential every season. Try as they might, it’s inevitable that a front office is going to draft a “bust”. The more draft picks you have, the more likely it becomes that one of those picks isn’t going to pan out. The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a number of great picks over the past five seasons, but they haven’t been immune from drafting the occasional bust.

Recently, NFL analyst Nick Faria of Pro Football Network identified the worst draft pick from every team over the past five seasons. For the Jaguars, Faria landed on the Jags’ first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, cornerback C.J. Henderson. Henderson was seen as a highly-talented prospect coming out of the University of Florida, and the Jaguars had a clear need at the position.

Taking a cornerback in the top 10 of the NFL draft is always a gamble. It can have great results, as we’ve seen recently with players like the New York Jets ’ Sauce Gardner or the Houston Texans ’ Derek Stingley, Jr. Unfortunately for the Jaguars and Henderson, things never panned out that way in Jacksonville – or at any stop since.

Henderson’s career with the Jaguars got off to a hot start, as he got his first career interception in his first game, and won the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award for his debut. Injuries would eventually derail his rookie campaign, as he finished the season on injured reserve. The next season, Henderson was traded to the Carolina Panthers, where he would spend parts of three seasons.

Now, Henderson finds himself with the Texans and fighting for a spot on the final 53-man roster, which is no guarantee. A potentially unceremonious end to a career that began with such fanfare.
